LUBBOCK, Texas (September 6, 2016) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals volleyball team hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State University for their home opener inside Rip Griffin Center. LCU opened their season this past weekend in Denton, Texas and went 2-2. They defeated Harding and tournament host Texas Woman's, but fell to Texas A&M Commerce and CSU-Pueblo.

- This meeting will mark the third meeting between the two programs. LCU, who has a 2-0 all-time record against SWOSU, defeated the Bulldogs 3-0 on Aug. 27, 2005 and 3-0 in Canyon, Texas on Aug. 29, 2009.
- SWOSU is a member of the Great American Athletic Conference, where they are preseason picked third in the conference.
- The Bulldogs went 1-4 to open the season, earning the programs first-ever win against West Texas A&M, while suffering losses to Northern Michigan, McKendree, Adams State and Eastern New Mexico.
- Carly Zak was named to the BritCare Lady Buff Classic All-Tournament Team after leading the tournament in points per set (4.79) and ranking second in kills per set (4.21). Zak reached the 1,200-career kill plateau in the Bulldogs win over WT and her school-record total currently sits at 1,231.
- SWOSU went 22-12 last season, going 12-6 in non-conference play.
GAME NOTES
- The Lady Chaps (2-2) play their home opener of the 2016 season. LCU fell last season in their home opener to Arkansas – Fort Smith. It ended a four-game win streak in home openers. Last season, LCU went 8-2 at home last season and have won eight straight home matches.
- The Lady Chaps are 1-3 in opening sets this season and are 3-1 in the third sets of matches on the year.
- LCU leads the Heartland Conference in blocks with 38 for a mark of 2.53 per set. They have the team mark despite not having an individual in the top three in the category. However, three of the top eight individual leaders in blocks are members of the Lady Chaps, and they are Ariel Froeschl (fourth, 1.13 per set), Emily Hanaway (seventh, 1.0 per set) and Christiana Tavo (eighth, 0.9 per set).
- Channing Castleberry leads the Heartland Conference in aces with nine. She produced five aces against Texas Woman's.
- Mallory Powell leads the conference in assists (145) and is second in assists per set at 9.7 per set.
