Lady Chaps Look to Keep the Jets Cool

LCU Aims For Best Win Streak Since 2008

WICHITA, Kan. (October 12, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals matched their longest win streak since 2011 Thursday by handing Arkansas – Fort Smith their first straight-set defeat in a Heartland Conference history, and now prepare to face Newman Saturday at noon. LCU's first-ever road win over UAFS extended LCU's win streak to 11 matches.  A 12th consecutive win would give them their longest win streak since a 22-match win streak in 2008. LCU enters the match atop the Heartland Conference standings with their first 5-0 start since joining the Heartland Conference in 2013. They are a game ahead of St. Mary's, who is 4-1 in the conference.

NEWMAN | Sat., Oct. 13 | 12 p.m.
- The Lady Chaps are 8-5 against Newman in the all-time series. The two squads split the season series last season. The home team won each match, although Newman's home match was held off campus in Bel Aire, Kan. LCU has a 1-0 record in the series this season, as they defeated the Jets 3-0 on Sept. 14 in Carrollton, Texas (non-conference match).
- NU was preseason picked fifth in the Heartland Conference. They went 11-20 last season, with a 4-8 mark in conference play.
- The Jets are 1-19 this season, with an 0-8 record at home. They are 0-5 in conference and their 3-0 loss Tuesday to UAFS extended their losing skid to 17 matches. They are playing under the guidance of Jose Lugo, who is in his first season coaching the Jets.
- Entering the weekend with 7.3 assists per set, Reagon Roth ranks third in the conference in the category.
- It has been a tough 2018 campaign for Newman, as they rank last in the conference in 14 of the 15 team statistical categories. The only one they do not rank last in is aces per set (fifth at 1.09).

GAME NOTES
- Lubbock Christian takes a 15-6 record into the contest and they are 6-2 in true road games this season. They are currently on an 11-match win streak, which is their best since an 11-match win streak in September of 2011. LCU has won 33 of their last 36 sets played, and their 11-match active win streak is tied for the 13th longest active streak in NCAA Div. II.
- LCU is 5-0 in conference play this season, which is their best conference start since joining the Heartland Conference. It is their first 5-0 conference record since 2012, which was their final season in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
- Serving aces has developed into an intriguing story this season. The Lady Chaps have experienced the highs (13 aces Sept. 14 vs. Newman and on Sept. 22 vs. Northwestern Oklahoma State, which tied a program single-match high under head coach Jennifer Lawrence) and lows (0 against Southwestern Okla. State on Sept. 6) from the serving line this season. Aces per set (1.55) and total aces (110) are the only team statistical category LCU leads in the Heartland Conference. Maddie DeGuire leads the conference in aces per set with 0.51 (24th nationally). DeGuire leads the Heartland and is 21st nationally with 35 aces this season.
- Bradi Marshall leads the Heartland Conference and ranks 35th nationally with a conference-leading 10.70 assists per set, which ranks ninth among all freshmen. Marshall leads the team in double-doubles this season with eight, with double-doubles in four of five conference matches played. She is coming off a 43- assist performance Thursday, which was the highest in a three-set match by a lady Chaps member since Mallory Powell recorded 43 on Nov. 3, 2016.
- Kelsie French leads the Heartland Conference in digs per set (6.15) and enters Saturday ranking 11th nationally in the category. French is 15th nationally in total digs (437) and her career mark of 2,408 ranks second among NCAA Division II active career leaders. She is the two-time reigning Heartland Conference Defensive player of the Week, which is an honor she has received four times this season.
- Lauren Zoller leads the Heartland Conference in kills per set (3.44) and is second in points per set (3.88). Her rate in conference play in kills per set is 3.80.
