LUBBOCK, Texas (November 1, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals hit their final stretch of conference games to close out the regular season, hosting Arkansas – Fort Smith Thursday at 7 p.m. inside Rip Griffin Center. LCU closes out the regular season hoisting Newman Saturday for Senior Day. The Lady Chaps has already clinched at least a share of the Heartland Conference regular season title, and a win Thursday would give LCU sole possession of the honor.
ARKANSAS – FT. SMITH | Thur., Nov. 1 | 7 p.m.
- The Lady Chaps and UAFS will meet for the 14th all-time meeting, with LCU coming in with wins in the two previous meetings. Despite LCU winning the prior two matches, including a 3-0 win at Ft. Smith, Ark. on Oct. 11, the Lions are 11-2 all-time against LCU. In their prior meeting in Lubbock, LCU was able to bounce back from a 2-0 deficit Oct. 21, 2017 for a 3-2 win to end UAFS's 43-match conference win streak.
- UAFS was preseason picked first in the Heartland Conference. They went 26-7 last season, with an 11-1 mark in conference play. St. Mary's upset the Lions in the Heartland Conference Tournament and they did not qualify for the regional tournament.
- The Lions are 17-11 this season (7-4 in conference), with a 6-3 road record. Tuesday, they defeated Newman 3-0 and have won three of their prior four matches.
- UAFS leads the conference with 1,274 kills, which ranks 80
th nationally.
- Anna Demmer is UAFS's go-to, ranking 18th nationally with a conference-leading 1,138 attacks (11.4 per set, which ranks 31
st nationally and leads the conference). Demmer leads the conference in kills per set (3.30).
GAME NOTES
- Lubbock Christian takes a 20-7 record into the contest and they are 8-2 in home games this season. LCU has won their last eight home matches.
- LCU is 9-1 in conference play this season. LCU maintained a one-match lead in the Heartland Conference standings with a 3-1 win over St. Mary's Saturday (St. Mary's is second at 7-3). LCU's conference record of 9-1 is their best 10-match start in Heartland Conference play since a 9-1 record through 10 matches to begin their 2014 Heartland Conference schedule.
- LCU produced 10.0 blocks in their 3-2 win over West Texas A&M Tuesday, with

Morgan Schwarz and
Avery Moore co-leading the Lady Chaps with five. It is the 12th time this season LCU has had at least 8.0 blocks in a match this season and they have completed the task in their last five matches.
- Serving aces has developed into an intriguing story this season. The Lady Chaps have experienced the highs (13 aces Sept. 14 vs. Newman and on Sept. 22 vs. Northwestern Oklahoma State, which tied a program single-match high under head coach
Jennifer Lawrence) and lows (0 against Southwestern Okla. State on Sept. 6) from the serving line this season. LCU leads the Heartland Conference in aces per set (1.52) and total aces (143).
Maddie DeGuire leads the conference in aces per set with 0.42 (54
th nationally). DeGuire leads the Heartland and is 59
th nationally with 39 aces this season.
Bradi Marshall had eight aces on Oct. 20 (vs. Dallas Baptist), marking the most by a Lady Chap in the 15 years

- Marshall leads the Heartland Conference and ranks 24
th nationally with a conference-leading 11.04 assists per set, which ranks fifth nationally among all freshmen. Marshall leads the team in double-doubles this season with 14, with double-doubles in eight of 10 conference matches played.

Kelsie French leads the Heartland Conference in digs per set (5.9) and enters Thursday ranking 16th nationally in the category. French is 43
rd nationally in total digs (526) and her career mark of 2,495 ranks third among NCAA Division II active career leaders.

Lauren Zoller ranks second in the Heartland Conference in kills per set (3.29) and is third in points per set (3.69).
- The Heartland Conference awarded
Bradi Marshall the Setter of the Week award for a fourth straight week (sixth time overall this season). Marshall continued her stellar freshman campaign leading the Lady Chaps to a 2-0 week and at least a share of the regular-season title. The Lubbock, Texas native averaged 12.4 assists per set with 87 total assists over LCU's two matches. She also averaged 4.3 digs per set with 30 total digs to help claim her 12th and 13th double-doubles of the season. She also added four kills, 2 aces and 4 blocks.
- Tuesday, LCU had 71 kills and 115 digs (both were the most since recording 75 kills and 125 digs on Oct. 16, 2014 against Newman) to outlast West Texas A&M 3-2 inside Rip Griffin Center.
Ashley Vanfleet (26 kills and 27.5 points),
Bradi Marshall (64 assists),
Klaire Torrez (four aces) and
McKaley Johnson (30 digs) had career high performances and each helped the Lady Chaps defeat West Texas A&M for the first time in Lubbock since Oct. 20, 2008. Vanfleet's career high 26 kills ties as the second highest single-game mark by a Lady Chaps member since Lawrence took over the program. Kacey Deterding was the last player to have a higher mark, as she recorded 27 on Nov. 5, 2013. Marshall's career high 64 assists marked the second highest single-match individual assist total since 15-year head coach
Jennifer Lawrence took the helm at LCU. Erin Fisher had 66 assists on Nov. 7, 2013 (vs. Texas Permian Basin). The 64 assists ties as the 13
th most this season in a NCAA Division II match and the highest marking produced this season by a freshman.
