Lady Chaps Clashing With Conference Foes in Carrollton

LCU Plays Two Matches Friday in Conference Preview

CARROLLTON, Texas (September 14, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals continue their three-match stretch of play in the Dallas area Friday with matches at Advantage Sports Complex against St. Edward's (11:30 a.m.) and Newman (4:30 p.m.). The matches are non-conference matches part of a conference preview event.

ST. EDWARD'S | Fri., Sep. 14 | 11:30 a.m.
- LCU has won 12 of the prior 13 meetings over SEU and has a 12-5 all-time advantage in the series, which dates back to the 1989 season. LCU went 2-0 last season against SEU, sweeping the season series. They have won the prior four meetings.
- SEU was preseason picked fourth in the Heartland Conference. They went 16-11 last season, with a 6-6 mark in conference play.
- The Hilltoppers are 8-4 this season, with a 4-3 record in neutral site play. They are coming off a 3-2 win Saturday over No.25 Missouri Western, behind a 25-kill performance from Melissa McNeil.
- SEU is a defensive minded squad, ranking sixth nationally in digs (872) and 15th in blocks (97.5).  It is not to say they lack offense, as they rank 10th nationally in total attacks (1,767).
- Two players in the top-10 among active career dig leaders in NCAA Div. II will face off, as SEU's Morgan Beckham is 48 digs away from 2,000 career digs and is sixth in career digs with 1,952. LCU's Kelsie French is second with 2,200 career digs. Beckham ranks 15th nationally this season with 231 digs.

NEWMAN | Fri., Sep. 14 | 4:30 p.m.
- The Lady Chaps are 7-5 against Newman in the all-time series. The two squads split the season series last season.  The home team won each match, although Newman's home match was held off campus in Bel Aire, Kan.
- NU was preseason picked fifth in the Heartland Conference. They went 11-20 last season, with a 4-8 mark in conference play.
- The Jets are 1-8 this season, with a 1-2 record in neutral site play. They will face Texas A&M International Friday morning seeking to end a six-match losing skid. They are playing under the guidance of Jose Lugo, who is in his first season coaching the Jets.
- Entering the week with 200 assists, Reagon Roth ranks third in the conference in the category.
- It has been a tough start to the 2018 campaign for Newman, as they rank last in the conference in 13 of the 15 team statistical categories.

GAME NOTES
- Lubbock Christian takes a 6-6 record into Friday's play and they are 3-3 in neutral site matches this season. They are coming off a 3-0 win Thursday at Dallas Baptist.
- Eight of LCU's 12 matches have resulted in straight-set wins. LCU is 4-4 in games resulting in 3-0 finals.
- Aces per set (1.2) is the only team statistical category LCU ranks inside the top-three in the Heartland Conference, ranking second. Maddie DeGuire leads the conference in aces per set with 0.38. LCU did not allow an ace from their opposition (DBU) Thursday, marking their first clean serve reception mark since Oct. 7, 2017 (ironically also at Dallas Baptist). If LCU can go consecutive matches without allowing an ace, it would mark an LCU first under head coach Jennifer Lawrence, who is in her 15th season with LCU.
- LCU's six losses have come to teams that have combined for a 55-12 (82.1%) record this season.
- Kelsie French leads the Heartland Conference in digs per set (5.6) and entered the week ranking 32nd nationally in the category. Thursday, she notched 2,200 career digs to move into third on LCU's career digs list and is six digs away from moving into fifth among Heartland Conference career dig leaders (needs six to pass former Texas-Permian member Danae Eckart, who had 2,205 digs from 2009-12).
