Lady Chaps Wrapping Up Regular Season With a Pair of Home Games

LCU Hosting Two Important Games as LSC Championship Seeding Awaits

Lubbock Christian University is home for their final two-game homestand and it closes out the regular season. The Lady Chaps host DBU (Dallas Baptist) Friday and Tarleton State Saturday for a pair of non-divisional Lone Star Conference matches and the final games of the 2019 regular season. LCU has concluded division play (5-5) and have clinched a berth to the 12-team field of the Lone Star Conference Championships. They currently sit in fourth place within their division and would need Texas – Permian Basin to lose their final two division contests to finish in third place of their division. LCU enters the week winning five of their last six matches. Saturday's match against Tarleton State will serve as Senior Day for LCU.
 
DBU | Nov. 15 | 6 p.m.
- The Lady Chaps hold a staggering 35-4 all-time record against the Patriots. LCU opened the all-time series winning the first 23 meetings dating back to 1983. DBU won final meeting of the 2017 season to mark their latest win in the series, as LCU has won three straight meetings since then (including a 3-2 win on Oct. 20, 2018 in Dallas in the prior meeting). LCU has a 16-0 commanding all-time record in Lubbock against DBU.
- DBU was preseason picked 13th in the Lone Star Conference. They went 12-17 last season, with a 5-7 mark in conference play. They are 15-13 overall this season and 7-9 in conference play. They completed their division play 5-5 and clinched a LSC Championship berth.
- The Patriots are seeking to end a five-match road losing streak. They are 2-8 on the road this season.
- DBU leads the LSC and ranks 28th nationally in attacks per set with a mark of 38.4 per set. In addition, they lead the LSC and rank 39th nationally in digs per set with a mark of 17.8.
- Brooke Clark has been on the attack for DBU, leading the conference in attacks (1,000 to rank 65th nationally) and second in the LSC in attacks per set (10.0 to rank 83rd nationally).
 
TARLETON STATE | Nov. 16 | 2 p.m.
- The Lady Chaps have won 21 of the 33 (21-12) contests between the two squads in a series that dates to 1979. Despite the meetings, the teams have only faced each other five times in the past two decades. Tarleton has won the prior two meetings, with a 3-0 neutral site win for the Texans on Sept. 29, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas.
- The No.15-ranked Texans enter the week having won seven straight matches and have a 19-9 overall record (11-5 in conference). Tarleton completed division play with 7-3 record and currently sit second in their division. They were preseason picked to win the Lone Star Conference.
- Prior to facing LCU Saturday, the Texans will make a stop Friday in San Angelo, Texas to face Angelo State.
- With 1,414 kills, Tarleton State leads the LSC and ranks 21st nationally in kills. They also rank 20th in assists (1,318) and 15th in blocks (245).
- Sophia Tonga ranks 12th nationally in blocks with 126. She also leads the conference and ranks 29th nationally in blocks per set (1.19).
 
LADY CHAP NOTES
- The Lady Chaps head into the contest with a 14-11 record, looking for a fifth straight home win to improve a 9-3 home record on the season. They are 8-8 in conference matches and finished with a 5-5 record in divisional play. The postseason LCS Championship seeds are determined off their NCAA Division II RPI.
-LCU ranks third in the LSC in attacks per set (37.8), ranking 48th nationally. Their total attacks mark of 3,822 attack attempts ranks fourth in the conference (59th nationally). Hannah Thomas has received much of the effort, totaling 907 attacks (third in the conference) and averaging 9.6 attacks per set (ranks fifth in the conference). She ranks tied for 17th in the LSC in kills (251).
- Lubbock Christian has served up 140 aces in their 25 matches this season (fifth in the LSC). Maddie DeGuire leads the team in aces with 37, which leads the conference. She is second in the conference with a pace of 0.37 per set. Bradi Marshall and Hannah Thomas have also been an impact from the service line, as they are each tied for 10th in the conference with 28.
- Marshall ranks second in the LSC in assists per set with a rate of 9.6, ranking 69th nationally. She is second the LSC in total assists with 969 (49th nationally). Marshall has 35 career double-doubles (18 this season) and has 10 in her last 11 matches played. She became the 11th player in LCU program history to reach 2,000 career assists, and currently sits with 2,044 career assists. Marshall is 39 assists away from moving into 10th on LCU's all-time career assists list and would pass Ashley Hardin, who had 2,082 assists from 1996-97.
- Saturday is "Senior Day" for the Lady Chaps. Personnel of the Lady Chaps, including on-court members Morgan Schwarz, Karley David-McLeroy, Ashley Vanfleet and Hannah Thomas will be recognized.
- Maddie DeGuire ranks fourth in the conference in total digs (461) and is fourth in digs per set (4.6). Her mark of 300 digs in conference play is second in the LSC (fifth with a pace of 4.62 per set in conference).
- Morgan Schwarz has shown a mix of offense and defense in conference play, averaging 1.95 kills per set on a .302 attack percentage and 0.72 blocks per set (47.0 blocks in conference play). Her .302 attack percentage in conference play ranks 11th in the LSC and she ranks 11th in the LSC with 80 blocks overall this season.
- LCU opponents have been called for 91 ball handling errors this season (39 have been called against LCU).
-On Oct. 17, the LCU Athletic Department announced Mandy Polk has been promoted from interim head coach to head coach, officially marking her as the sixth head coach in program history. LCU has a 5-2 record since the announcement.
