PORTALES, N.M. (September 19, 2019) - The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals open their Lone Star Conference era this weekend with a pair of road matches. They play their inaugural Lone Star Conference match and conference-opener Friday at Eastern New Mexico and follow with a trip to Canyon, Texas Saturday to face West Texas A&M. Both games are divisional games and only divisional games are being used for LSC standings (10 games).

-LCU and Eastern New Mexico are meeting for the 61st time all-time, but it marks the first meeting as conference foes. ENMU leads the all-time series with a 33-27 mark. LCU won the lone 2018 meeting 3-0 on Aug. 25 in Canyon, Texas. four of the prior six meetings have resulted in five-set decisions. LCU is 8-18 all-time in Portales. ENMU won the previous meeting in Portales (3-1) on Oct. 3, 2017, with LCU's prior win (3-0) in Portales coming the prior meeting on Oct. 1, 2013.
- ENMU is preseason picked to finish 12
th in the Lone Star Conference. They went 9-20 overall last season, finishing eighth in the LSC with a 7-13 conference mark.
- The Greyhounds are off to a 2-6 start to the 2019 season. For the first time since 2015, ENMU's home opener doubles as their LSC opener. ENMU, who went 5-5 at home last season, is 1-4 in their last five LSC openers and 3-2 in their last five home opener.
- LCU's attack percentage (.168) sits 14
th in the conference, but it will go up against a hitting defense that sits last (19
th) in the LSC, allowing their opponents to hit .262 this season.
- The Greyhounds rank fourth in the conference serving up aces at a rate of 1.85 per set.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- The Lady Chaps head into the contest with a 5-3 record, looking for their first road win (0-1) of the season. LCU had a five-match win streak snapped at home Saturday in their last contest (3-1 loss to Dixie State).
- LCU is 21-3 all-time in conference openers. The Lady Chaps went 4-2 in Heartland Conference openers, defeating St. Mary's 3-0 on the road in last season's conference opener. They went 17-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference openers prior to becoming Heartland Conference members. LCU played a "district" schedule prior to joining the Heartland Conference.
-The Lady Chaps lead the LSC in attacks per set (39.0), ranking 18
th nationally. Their total attacks mark of 1,208 attack attempts ranks second in the conference.
Hannah Thomas has received much of the effort, totaling 310 attacks (second in the conference) and averaging 10.0 attacks per set (ranks third in the conference). She ranks fourth in the LSC in kills (101), ranking ninth with 3.3 kills per set.
- Lubbock Christian has served up 53 aces in their eight matches this season (fifth in the LSC).
Maddie DeGuire leads the team in aces with 16, which ranks second in the conference and 28
th nationally. She ranks sixth in the conference with a pace of 0.52 per set.
Bradi Marshall ranks seventh in the conference with 13 aces.
- Marshall also leads the LSC in assists per set with a rate of 10.2, ranking 47
th nationally. She leads the LSC in total assists with 315 (25
th nationally). In the Chap Classic in Lubbock, Marshall led the team with 162 assists at a rate of 10.8 per set. Her high on the week was a 46-assist contest (11.5 per set) in a 3-1 win over Black Hills State. She had a trio of double-doubles on the week, reaching her 20th career double-double (fourth of the season) in the win over BHSU.
- LCU's
Avery Moore and
Hannah Thomas claimed Chap Classic All-Tournament honors. Moore had 41 kills (2.73 per set) with a .217 attack percentage. She also provided eight blocks and 13 digs. Thomas produced her first career double-double Saturday and completed the tournament with 57 kills (3.8 per set), 35 digs and five aces.

Maddie DeGuire ranks third in the conference in total digs (142) and is fifth in digs per set (4.6). She posted at least 21 digs in all four matches of the Chap Classic, averaging 23.8 digs for the four matches. Her high on the week was a career-high 26 digs (8.7 per set) in a three-set straight-set win over Southwestern Oklahoma State, as LCU set a program record for digs (89) in a three-set match.
