WICHITA FALLS, Texas (January 8, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University closed a demanding road swing with a 73–62 Lone Star Conference victory over Midwestern State Thursday evening at D.L. Ligon Coliseum, rallying from a halftime deficit to secure its fifth straight series win in Wichita Falls.
LCU (14–2, 6–1 LSC) trailed 34–33 at the break before tightening defensively and outscoring the Mustangs 40–28 over the final two quarters. The Lady Chaps limited MSU to 23.9 percent shooting after the opening period and just 11 made field goals across the final three quarters, turning a seven-point deficit into a double-digit lead late in the fourth.
Kennedy Chappell led Lubbock Christian with 20 points on an efficient 6-of-7 shooting night, adding seven rebounds while drawing nine fouls. She scored seven points in the third quarter as LCU seized momentum, marking her seventh 20-point performance of the season and third straight, a streak that ties for the fifth-longest in the program's NCAA era.
Kyndle Cunningham added 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, while freshman
Mattie Dollar chipped in eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks in 17 minutes off the bench.
LCU's defense anchored the comeback, recording a season-high six blocks and holding MSU to 29.3 percent shooting overall and 4-of-21 from beyond the arc. The Lady Chaps also won the rebounding battle 39–34 and finished with advantages in points in the paint (34–22) and fast-break scoring (18–7), despite being outscored 24–15 at the free-throw line.
Midwestern State (4–8, 1–5 LSC) was led by Kerbie Cash, who finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Calyssa Sevier scored 13 points and Ta'Leeyah Glynn added eight. The Mustangs built a halftime lead behind strong early shooting and capitalized on LCU turnovers, scoring 21 points off miscues, but were unable to keep pace as their offense cooled in the second half.
The win capped a seven-game road stretch for Lubbock Christian, which improved to 7–2 in true road games this season and extended its winning streak over MSU to 11 straight contests.
How It Happened
The game commenced with Midwestern State and Lubbock Christian exchanging early baskets, as the two teams had seven lead changes in the opening quarter.
Kyndle Cunningham had the hot hand early with seven points in the quarter. As the Mustangs had an 8-2 run to go up 14-10 in the quarter, Cunningham helped LCU respond with a crucial three-pointer at 1:27 to cap a 5-0 run for a brief 15-14 lead. However, the Mustangs secured the quarter lead with two free throws by Kerbie Cash with nine seconds left, ending the quarter with a 20-17 advantage.
Lubbock Christian narrowed the gap in the second quarter, outscoring Midwestern State 16-14.
Kennedy Chappell hit a three-pointer with 8:45 left in the half, and it was the only LCU points during a 7-3 MSU scoring surge to open the quarter to MSU their largest lead of the game (27-20). MSU maintained a slim lead, primarily through Kerbie Cash's nine points in the quarter, including three free-throws in the final 2:17 of the half for MSU's only points of the final 5:06 of the half. Chappell closed the half's scoring with a put-back as 42 seconds remained in the half to cap a 5-point scoring quarter and put her leading LCU at the break with 10 points. The bucket cut MSU's lead to 34-33 heading into the lockerroom.
LCU rallied in the third quarter with strategic plays and timely scoring.
Tia Johnson hit a fast-break three-pointer at 7:21, giving the visitors a 37-34 edge. Chappell contributed significantly with a layup at 5:03 to end a 4-0MSU run, pushing the Chaparrals ahead again after a brief lead change.
Mattie Dollar extended the margin with a tip-in and a free throw at 4:00, and later secured a seven-point lead with a three-pointer at 49 seconds remaining, which capped a 7-0 run. Despite a late three-pointer by Alyssa Hutterer for the Mustangs (12 seconds left in the quarter), the Lady Chaps ended the quarter ahead, 49-45. Chappell (7) and Dollar (6) combined for 13 of LCU's 16 points in the quarter.
Lubbock Christian secured the victory over MSU with a strong performance in the fourth quarter.
Tia Johnson opened the quarter with a put-back 34 seconds into the quarter, giving the Chaps a 51-45 lead. The visitors maintained their advantage with key plays, including a three-pointer by
Meg Meekins at 3:47, assisted by
Mattie Dollar, which extended their lead to 62-59. The three-pointer was the opening field goal of an 11-0 LCU run for a 69-59 lead. Despite MSU's efforts, including a three-pointer by Ta'Leeyah Glynn with 20 seconds remaining, the Lady Chaps closed the final five minutes of the game out-scoring MSU 15-3. Meekins (6) and

Meg Meekins had her nearby hometown fans in full force and Meekins did not disappoint them. She finished with nine points and a career-high six assists. She hit a clutch three-pointer with 3:47 remaining in the game to put LCU up 62-59, and it was the first field goal of LCU's 11-0 run in the frame.
» Sunday, LCU's defense allowed a 50% shooting performance from St. Mary's which was a shooting high performance by an LCU opponent this season. They responded by holding MSU to a 29.3% shooting mark (17/58), which is the second-lowest shooting performance from the field by an opponent this season. MSU was held to 19% (4/21) shooting from three-point range. The Mustangs were held to a 23.9% shooting mark from the field (11/46) over the final three quarters of the game after shooting 50% (6/12) in the opening quarter. MSU went nearly a 10-minute stretch from the halfway mark of the second and third quarters in which they were 0-of-10 from the field (LCU out-scored them 10-5 during the field goal drought).

Kennedy Chappell scored 20 points on an efficient 6-of-7 shooting night. Chappell scored seven of her points in the third quarter to help swing momentum, while also pulling down seven rebounds and drawing nine fouls against MSU defenders. The outing marked her seventh career 20-point performance—and seventh of the season—and her third straight game with 20 or more points, tying for the fifth-longest streak of consecutive 20-point games in LCU's NCAA era (start of 2015–16 season). The performance also marked the 25
th double-figure scoring game of her LCU career, as she has double figures in points in 15 of 16 games this season and in her last 11 consecutive games.

Martie McCoy had a contributing statistical night as well, posting 6 assists, 5 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. She becomes the second different individual and it marks the third time in the program's NCAA era to post a stat line of at least 6+ assists, 5+ points, 5+ rebounds and 3+ blocks. Tess Bruffey completed the feat twice, with the latest coming with a 17-point, 13-rebound, 10-assist, and 5-block performance on Mar. 12, 2018 against West Texas A&M in a NCAA postseason contest.

Kimber Mathews made her return to the lineup after the missing the prior eight games due to a potentially career-ending ranching injury suffered during the Thanksgiving break. She played nearly five minutes and had an assist, steal and rebound.
