All-Time Series: ENMU leads 23-11

LUBBOCK, Texas (November 29, 2014) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals complete play in the Lowe's Market Thanksgiving Classic Saturday hosting Eastern New Mexico at 7:30 p.m. inside Rip Griffin Center.

The Lady Chaps are seeking to rebound from a 73-71 overtime loss Friday to Tarleton State University. The loss ended LCU's program record 18-game home win streak and it was their first overtime loss since Dec. 2, 2010. LCU received a program single game record nine blocks from Tess Bruffey and received career highs from Allison Szabo and Haley Fowler, but it was not enough to overcome Tarleton State shooting a program record 13 three-pointers and receiving a 7-for-7 shooting performance from the pe-rimeter by Kathy Thomas. The Tarleton shooting performance from long range was a three-pointer shy of tying a record by a LCU opponent.

The loss has LCU entering Saturday's play with a 3-2 record. LCU has three players averaging double figures, with Haley Burton leading the way with 15.8 points a contest. Fowler, coming off a career high 19 points, averages 13.8 points and Tess Bruffey averages 10.8.

LCU, who had 65 blocks as a team last season, already has a NCAA Div. II leading 47 blocks this season. Kellyn Schneider has 21 and Bruffey has 20 to lead the way.  The Lady Chaps have three consecutive games in which they have produced at least 10 blocks. Under head coach Steve Gomez, LCU had only had one game of at least 10 blocks prior to the current three game stretch.

ABOUT ENMU
The Zias fell to 1-4 on the season following a 67-58 loss to Texas-Permian Basin in the opening game of the Lowe's Market Thanksgiving Classic. All Their games have been decided by single digits. The lone win was a 77-61 win over Western New Mexico, in a game played at The Pit in Albuquerque. Their four losses have been by a combined 17 points for an average deficit of 4.25 points. Tori Tucker is averaging 14.2 points per game to lead the Zias. Sarah Stinnett recorded 16 points in the loss to UTPB and is aver-aging 16.5 points over the past two games.

THE SERIES AGAINST ENMU
ENMU leads the all-time series with a mark of 23-11. LCU has won three of the last five meetings, includ-ing sweeping the home-and-home season series last season.  The Lady Chaps claimed a 101-66 win in the last meeting in Lubbock (Nov. 12) and the prior meeting resulted in an 84-52 LCU win in Portales, New Mexico (Jan.6). LCU is 3-2 against ENMU under head coach Steve Gomez.

THE LAST MEETING AGAINST ENMU
Jan. 6, 2014 (Portales, N.M.)  - LCU: 84  / ENMU: 52
A 30-point and 11-rebound performance by Eastern New Mexico University's Jasmine Johnson was not enough for the Zias, as an active Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals squad had assists on 26 of 33 field goals to garner an 84-52 win for their first win at Greyhound Arena since Dec. 30, 2002.

LCU took command of the game early on, turning a 5-4 lead into a 15-4 lead with a 10-0 run in the open-ing five minutes, shortly followed with a 16-0 run for a 33-9 lead with 7:48 remaining in the half. LCU had points from five different players during the 16-0 run and was 7-of-11 from the field during the run. Late in the half, LCU had a 9-0 run and built their largest lead at the half at 44-13 with 2:25 remaining. LCU was 57.6% (19/33) from the field in the half and took a 45-17 lead at the break. They were 69.5% (16/23) from inside the arc in the half. The Lady Chaps had assists on 16 of their 19 field goals in the half. ENMU was held to a 23.3% (7/30) shooting mark in the half.

With the large lead, LCU utilized their bench.  All 11 LCU participants saw action in the first half and no player played more than 29 minutes. Johnson was 6-of-11 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line in the second half for a 20-point outing in the half, but her performance had little impact for the Zias. LCU never let their lead slip under 23 points, as they shot 51.9% (14/27) from the field in the half. While Johnson was contributing, the rest of her teammates combined to shoot 5-of-28 (17.9%) in the half.

The Lady Chaps received a team-leading 15 points from Kelsey Hoppel and 14 points from Haley Burton, but most of the statistics were balanced out. Six Lady Chaps had at least four rebounds, with Kaycie Boyles leading the team with 10, and four players with at least four assists. Boyles had five assists to go along with 10 rebounds and nine points, and Haley Burton produced 10 points, five rebounds and a ca-reer-high six assists. LCU's 26 assists was their most assists since 28 (on 36 field goals) in their season opener ironically against Eastern New Mexico.

It was a long night for the Zias, who suffered their first home loss (2-1) of the season, shooting 26.1% (18/69) from the field. They made their second three-point attempt but missed their remaining 14 attempts to finish 1-of-16 (6.3%) in the game. Johnson is the first player to notch 30 points against LCU since Donica Cosby of Oklahoma City scored 30 on Mar. 5, 2010 against LCU.
