GOLDEN, Colo. (September 7, 2019) - The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals complete their opening weekend of play and their stay in Colorado Saturday, as they face University of Colo. Colorado Springs and Fresno Pacific at the Oredigger Classic, hosted by Colorado School of Mines inside Lockridge Arena.

- Lubbock Christian and UCCS have alternated outcomes in their three prior meetings, which UCCS leads 2-1. The all-time series dates back to 1995. UCCS is 2-0 against LCU in neutral site tilts, including a 3-1 win in their prior meeting (Sept. 6, 2013 in Canyon, Texas).
- UCCS is also a member of the RMAC and they are slated to finish seventh this season. They went 12-18 last season, with a 10-8 mark in RMAC play.
- Josie Russell and Hannah Ammerman were announced as Players to Watch by the RMAC.
- The Mountain Lions opened the season with a 3-1 loss to Alaska Fairbanks and a 3-1 win over Fresno Pacific Friday in Golden. Freshman Emily Ettel posted 9.9 assists per set, which enters the day third-best in the tournament.
- Raelynn Edge ranked third in the RMAC last season with 10.7 assists per set and enters the season ranking seventh in UCCS program history with 2,195 assists.

- The Lady Chaps and Fresno Pacific had two prior meetings during their glory days of NAIA competition. Fresno Pacific won both of the prior meetings in straight sets, opening the all-time series with a 3-0 win in the 2002 NAIA National Tournament in San Diego, Calif. (Dec. 4, 2002) and following with a 3-0 win in Fresno on Aug. 26, 2006. The 2006 season marked FPU's NAIA National Runner-Up season.
- FPU is preseason picked No.10 in the 12-team PacWest Conference. They completed the 2018 slate with a 7-24 record.
- Shasta Millhollin takes over as the new head coach of the Sunbirds. She spent the prior four seasons at William Jessup University.
- The Sunbirds, like the Lady Chaps, are also seeking their opening win of the season. They fell 3-0 to Colorado Mesa and 3-1 to Colo. Colorado Springs Friday in Golden. They open Saturday with Alaska Fairbanks prior to facing the Lady Chaps. Christina Tran averaged 8.1 assists per set and recorded three aces Friday.
- FPU has a slew of new faces, with sophomores Mikayla Kennedy and Jaalyn-Sotoa Stuebing representing the only returning starters.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- The Lady Chaps are 0-2 on the season after falling 3-1 to Colorado Mesa and 3-0 to tournament host Colorado School of Mines. Both opponents were Co-RMAC regular season champions last season. They open the season 0-2 for the first time since 2013.
- LCU fell to 27-14 all-time in season openers with their season-opening loss Friday.
- The Lady Chaps have an 11-5 advantage over their opponents in serving aces.
Maddie DeGuire and Brady Marshall each co-lead the tournament with four aces. DeGuire produced a pair in the opening set of the season Friday.
- LCU combined for 62 digs Friday, with 32 against CMU and 30 verses CSM. The pair of results would have marked the second and third-lowest dig totals for last season. LCU's lowest last season was 24, which also came during their season opener in Canyon, Texas (against Rockhurst).
- At the net, LCU is displaying balance on their attack.

Ashley Vanfleet (17) are all grouped atop the team-leaders in kills through two matches. On the opposite side of the net,
Morgan Schwarz had six blocks, which ranks tied for sixth in the tournament (eight-team tournament).
- A trio of Lady Chap newcomers made their LCU debut Friday, as
Sage Chain,
Hailey Cournoyer and
Sloan Williams hit the court for the first time. Cournoyer had five kills and a pair of blocks in her opening day of play.
- After Saturday's action, LCU returns home to host the Chap Classic inside Rip Griffin Center beginning Thursday.
