LADY CHAP NOTES
» Lubbock Christian University volleyball (10-4, 2-0 LSC) has surged into October riding a six-match win streak, its longest since a seven-match tear to open the 2023 season. The Lady Chaps opened Lone Star Conference play 2-0 for the first time since 2021 — just the second time since 2018 — highlighted by a sweep of Sul Ross State and a five-set win over Western New Mexico. LCU owns a 5-2 mark at Rip Griffin Center, while posting winning records on the road (2-1) and at neutral sites (3-1). The Lady Chaps sit tied for second in the LSC standings, one of five unbeaten teams in conference play.
» Setter
Camdyn Sears earned Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season (third LSC weekly honor) after leading the Lady Chaps to a 2-0 conference start. The Midland native tallied 92 assists (11.5/set), including a league-best 54 vs. Western New Mexico, while adding 23 digs and seven kills.
» The Lady Chaps top the Lone Star Conference in assists (13.06/set) and kills (13.77/set), both ranking among the nation's top 25. They also sit top five in the LSC in digs (17.81/set, 4th) and hitting percentage (.220, 6th).
»
Camdyn Sears ranks second in the LSC with 9.58 assists per set and leads the league with 479 total assists. She already owns seven double-doubles this year, including season highs of 54 assists, 23 digs, and seven kills in the win over WNMU.
»
Lily Bickley turned in a season-high 17 kills against Western New Mexico for her ninth double-digit kill performance this season. She and
Bryleigh Schweer both rank top-15 in the LSC in hitting percentage (.329/7th and .317/11th, respectively) and blocks (0.76/12
th and 0.77 / 11
th, respectively). Bickley leads the team with 154 kills (3.02/set), hitting .329 (7th in LSC). She has reached double-digit kills in nine matches, including eight of the last nine matches played. Bickley also ranks top-10 in the LSC for total blocks (39, 6th). She is 37 kills away from claiming her 1,000
th career kill. LCU has not had a player with at least 1,000 career kills since Maddie Johnson and Kasey Deterding each reached the mark in the 2015 season. Bickley, who ranks 34
th among active Division II players in career kills, would mark the third 1,000-kill producer for LCU since the current rally scoring format started in 2008.
» Offensively,
Emilee Sikora has played a roll pacing LCU. The freshman is 12th in the LSC at 2.91 kills per set, with seven double-digit outings.
» Libero
Abby Dominguez sits fourth in the LSC and 45th nationally in digs per set (4.81). Her 250 digs this season rank second-most in the league (19
th nationally), with four 20+ dig performances this year.
» In their prior match, against WNMU, LCU showed balance: Bickley (17), Sikora (13), and
Jade Workman (11) each posted double-digit kills, while Sears added her seventh double-double. Dominguez logged a season-best 29 digs, the sixth 20+ dig match of her career.
LOOKING AT STMU
- St. Mary's holds a 17-12 advantage in the all-time series dating back to 1980. LCU has won 10 of the last 17 meetings in the series, but the Rattlers have won four of the previous five meetings. The two teams met in San Antonio last season, with StMU claiming a 3-1 win on Nov. 1. The Lady Chaps are 5-4 all-time in San Antonio and LCU and StMU have met in Lubbock only once since 2018.
- St. Mary's has battled through a challenging start but enters this weekend with momentum, sitting 5-8 overall and 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play. The Rattlers opened the year with four losses in Hawaii but have since steadied, winning two straight to climb above .500 in league action. Road success (3-1) has offset early home struggles, and recent victories over UT Permian Basin and UT Dallas have StMU trending upward heading into their upcoming homestand against Lubbock Christian and Midwestern State.
- Cali Nims, who had over 1,000 assists as a senior sitter last season, will serve out the remainder of the season as interim coach, as she replaced interim coach Dave Ulrich last week. Dave was in for his wife Laura Ulrich, who left after last season to accept the head coaching opening at Illinois Springfield.
- St. Mary's has leaned on strong serving and back-row play to stay competitive in the Lone Star Conference. The Rattlers rank second in the league and No. 47 nationally with 97 total service aces, paced by Haleigh Wilk's 26 (No. 1 in the LSC, No. 29 nationally at 0.55/set). Defensively, libero Alyssa Koehl leads the LSC and ranks ninth nationally with 5.58 digs per set, anchoring a unit that sits fifth in the conference at 16.76 digs per frame.
- Offensively, the Rattlers spread the workload between Landri Withers (3.40 kills/set, No. 6 LSC) and Laurene Robinson (2.94 kills/set, No. 14 LSC), who together provide consistent scoring at the net. Robinson also ranks among the league's most efficient hitters at .279, while middle blocker Dallasstar Johnson contributes 1.06 blocks per set (No. 5 LSC). The Rattlers sit fourth in the conference in blocks per set (2.06) and have produced 103 total blocks.
