LOOKING AT ENMU
- LCU and Eastern New Mexico meet for the 67th time in their all-time series, with ENMU leading 34-33. LCU secured a 3-0 win in their last meeting on Sept. 13 (in Lubbock), marking nine wins in an 11-match stretch. It also marked consecutive meetings resulting in straight sets, as the previous straight-set result (before the current two-game stretch) was on Oct. 1, 2013. LCU is 10-19 against ENMU all-time in Portales. The Lady Chaps won the previous meeting in Portales 3-1 on Oct. 4, 2024.
- Eastern New Mexico has endured a challenging start to the 2025 campaign, entering Tuesday at 3–11 overall and 1–3 in Lone Star Conference play, sitting near the bottom of the league standings. After dropping their first eight matches, the Greyhounds briefly found momentum with a three-match win streak—including a conference victory at Texas A&M International—but have since stumbled in another three-match skid. ENMU has struggled to find consistency at home (0–2) but has shown flashes on the road, earning all three of its wins away from Portales.
- Karli Bustos is in her first season at the helm of the Greyhounds. Hired in January 2025, Bustos came to ENMU after five seasons leading Trinidad State, where she engineered a turnaround from a 2–20 campaign in 2020-21 to a program-best 23–10 mark last fall. A native of Española, N.M., she also spent four years as an assistant at New Mexico Highlands and was a high school coach in Las Vegas, N.M., earning district coach of the year honors in 2014.
- Eastern New Mexico enters Tuesday looking to build on the growth of a young roster that has flashed upside despite a challenging schedule. The Greyhounds have been competitive in long rallies, ranking among the league's top half in total attacks (1,832) and attempts per set (37.39). Sophomore outside hitter Sophia Valdez has been a bright spot offensively, ranking third in the LSC with 3.53 kills per set and sixth in total kills (173). Setter Violeta Flores continues to guide the offense with 5.19 assists per set, while Addison Bartlett provides another strong attacking option on the pin.
- Defensively, the Greyhounds rely on standout libero Imahni Brown, who ranks sixth in the LSC with 4.57 digs per set, already totaling 224 on the season. ENMU also ranks ninth in the league in digs per set (15.61), showing steady improvement in back-row consistency. Brown has added value at the service line with 19 aces, while middle blocker Amya Speller leads the team in total blocks (36). Though ENMU's 3–11 record includes several narrow losses, their energy and youth continue to trend upward as the Greyhounds look to turn competitive stretches into conference wins.
