All-Time Series: LCU leads 2-1

DRIVE TO DENTON
Lubbock Christian University heads to Denton, Texas Wednesday night to face Texas Woman's University for their fourth consecutive game against a Lone Star Conference opponent. The Lady Chaps are 2-1  against LSC teams this season.

LOOKING BACK AT THE LAST GAME
Lubbock Christian University set a program single-game record in shooting percentage with a 69.2% shooting mark, as seven players produced double figures and all 12 players that touched the floor for LCU figured into the scoring of a 101-49 victory over Eastern New Mexico to close play in the Lowe's Market Thanksgiving Classic Saturday at Rip Griffin Center.

All 12 players that touched the floor for LCU played at least 10 minutes and they combined to go 36-of-52 (69.2%) from the field. LCU was 77.4% (24/31) in the first half alone, leading to a 59-19 halftime lead. They also produced defensively, holding ENMU to a 22.6% (7/31) shooting mark in the first half. Ironically, the last time LCU held an opponent to 19 points or less in a first half was Jan. 6, 2014 at Eastern New Mexico (17 points). The 69.2% shooting mark broke the prior team record of 68.5% (37/54) set at the NAIA National Tournament against Georgetown (Kent.) on Mar. 15, 2013.

Seven different players made it to the free-throw line for LCU and they combined to go 95% from the line, missing one shot on 20 attempts. Allison Szabo led the pace, going 8-for-8 from the line.

The Lady Chaps outscored ENMU 46-12 in the paint and 25-3 in points off turnovers. They assisted on 24 of 36 field goals, with Blair Taylor (five), Haley Fowler (five) and Haley Burton (six) assisting with at least five assists.

LCU surged early, going on a 24-3 run a minute into the contest to place the score at 27-5 with over 12 minutes remaining in the opening half. The Lady Chaps were 11-of-12 from the field during the run. LCU led as much as 54 points (84-30 with 8:10 remaining) in the second half.

Callie Sandusky produced a career-high 13 points to co-lead LCU offensively with Burton. Hannah Harbin (12 points), Kellyn Schneider (11 points), Bailey Haist (11 points), Blair Taylor (10 points) and Szabo (10 points) joined Burton and Sandusky in double figures. No LCU player played more than 23 minutes.

ENMU did have some positive numbers despite the lopsided result. Texico, Texas twins Jaylyn Cooper (3-of-7) and Jordyn Cooper (3-of-5) combined to go 6-of-12 from three-point range. Jordyn led ENMU with 11 points. Things turned scary with under six minutes remaining, as Jasmine Johnson, who had a game-high 11 rebounds, suffered a head/neck injury and was transported to a local hospital resulting in a 15-minute delay.

The loss was ENMU's first loss of the season by more than single digits (1-5).

STREAKS STILL STANDING
LCU had their 18-game home win streak snapped last Friday to Tarleton State in overtime (73-71), but they still have two other long win streaks in tact. The Lady Chaps have won 16 consecutive road games and 23 consecutive conference games. The road streak is the longest active streak amongst NCAA Div. II programs. The last true road loss was on Nov. 16, 2013 (at Tarleton State).

HOME RECORDINGS
LCU has set a program record in all three of their home games this season:
11/22 - LCU tied a Heartland Conference Record and set a Rip Griffin Center record with 14 blocks. Kellyn Schneider tied a program single-game record with eight blocks.

11/28 - Tess Bruffey broke the LCU single game record and tied a Heartland Conference single game mark with nine blocks.

11/29 - LCU set a program record in field goal shooting with a 69.2% (36/52) shooting mark from the field, which is also a Heartland Conference record.

BLOCKING IT OUT
The Lady Chaps are tied atop all NCAA Div. II programs with 52 blocks this season. Their pace of 8.7 per game would rank third behind Emporia State (10.4) and Southern Nazarene (9.2). Individually, Kellyn Schneider (23) and Tess Bruffey (21) are both atop the Heartland Conference in blocks, with Callie Sandusky (5) also in the top-10 in the conference. Schneider's 23 blocks ranks tied for second if compared to NCAA Div. II programs.

THE POINT
LCU's offense came alive in their 101-49 win over ENMU. The 52-point victory was LCU's largest margin of victory since a 67-point win over Arlington Baptist on Nov. 20, 2012. It was the second consecutive time LCU responded from a loss to Tarleton State with a victory of 50-or-more points. The 101 points marked the 13th time LCU has reached at least 100 points in a game under Steve Gomez's coaching tenure and it is the 22nd time overall in program history.

CHANGING OF THE GUARD
Against Tarleton State, Blair Taylor made her first start of her LCU career. It was the first time LCU had made a starting line-up change since the 2012-2013 season when Emily Pool went down in the postseason. The Lady Chaps starting five never changed last season and the season opening lineup went unchanged through the first three games this season.

BURTON BREAKS IN
With three three-pointers against Eastern New Mexico, Haley Burton tied Emily Pool for fifth place all-time in LCU career three-pointers with 172. Her next three-pointer will place her in sole possession of fifth place and she is 10 away from tying Kelsey Hoppel's mark of 182.

CHARITY STRIPE SUCCESS
Prior to making the move to NCAA Division II, LCU was in the top-10 in the NAIA in free-throw shooting for eight consecutive seasons: 12/13 (1st), 11/12 (1st), 10/11 (9th), 09/10 (5th), 08/09 (2nd), 07/08 (1st), 06/07 (6th) and 05/06 (9th). Last season, LCU led the conference with a 78.1% shooting mark from the free-throw line, which ranked fifth in NCAA Division II. Hoppel set the program's single season free-throw shooting mark last season at 93.8%. It broke Nicole Hampton's mark of 92.4% from the 2011-2012 season.

ABOUT TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Pioneers enter Wednesday's play with a 4-2 record. TWU is coming off a 64-55 win Saturday over previously unbeaten East Central University. Sophomore forward Emily Spector led the Pioneers in the win with a game-high 17 points. She also had 11 rebounds and a trio of blocks and steals. They are seeking their third consecutive win and their fifth over a six-game span.  They are 1-1 against ranked teams, falling to No.7 Emporia State (76-61) and defeating No.25 St. Mary's (65-61).  Ashley Salazar leads TWU averaging 12 points per game. TWU has out-scored their opponents 202-133, but have been out-scored 225-189 in the second half of games this season.

THE SERIES AGAINST TEXAS WOMAN'S
LCU leads the all-time series 2-1 following an 88-66 LCU win on  Nov. 15, 2013 in the prior meeting between the two programs.  The two teams last met  in Denton, Texas on Nov. 1, 2010, with TWU winning 85-67. It was the 2010 season opener and the LCU debut for Haley Burton.

THE LAST MEETING AGAINST TEXAS WOMAN'S
Nov. 15, 2013 (Stephenville, Texas)  - LCU: 88 / TWU: 66
The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals opened each half on a 21-6 run and received 21 points from Kelsey Hoppel to open play at the TexAnn Tip-Off Classic with an 88-66 win over Texas Woman's University at Wisdom Gym.

The last time LCU played Texas Woman's University (Nov.1, 2010), LCU fell behind 20-5 to open the game. That would not be the case in this meeting, as they opened the game on a 7-0 run and eventually had a 21-6 lead through the opening nine minutes. LCU knocked down six consecutive shot attempts during a portion of the run and was 9-for-15 during the entirety of the run, while TWU was just 3-for-11 over the same span. Nine different Lady Chaps figured into the offense in the half, led by eight points from Haley Burton for a 42-29 halftime lead.

The run to start the second half spanned less than six minutes and LCU went on a 7-for-9 shooting spree during the surge, while TWU opened the second half converting on just three of their first 15 shot attempts. LCU led 63-35 after the run and led as much as 33 points (71-38 with 9:39 remaining) in the game.

Kelsey Hoppel had an impressive outing with 21 points to lead all scorers. She was 9-of-13 from the field and was 6-of-8 (3-of-4 from long range) in the second half alone for a 15-point outburst in the second half. It marked her 30th career double-figure point performance in her LCU career and it marked the sixth game in her LCU career in which she topped the 20-point plateau. LCU also received double-figures from Emily Pool (13 points), Burton (11 points) and Nicole Hampton (10 points).

LCU relied on their bench most of the second half and it did not hurt their offensive numbers. The Lady Chaps, shooting 53.4% (31/58) in the game, were 14-of-24 in the second half (58.3%) from the field (5-of-8 from long range). LCU forced the Pioneers into 26 turnovers leading to a 31-14 advantage in points off turnovers. They also dominated in the paint outscoring TWU 40-20 in that category. TWU received 15 points from Danielle Westerfield and 14 from Kenesha Seygo in the losing cause.

The Lady Chaps were 10-of-24 (41.7%) from three-point range, marking the second consecutive game in which LCU has notched at least 10 three-pointers.
