Hall of Honor
A graduate of Ropesville High School an South Plains College, Torrez came to Lubbock Christian to run track and cross-country from 1984 to 1986.Â
During his junior season (1984-85), he was an All-District selection, helping the Chaps to their first of three straight District VIII Championships. LCC went on to place 29th at the NAIA National Championships that year.
Continuing success over to Indoor Track & Field season Torrez in the 1000-meter with a time of 2:34.14, which is still the fourth-best time in school history in that event. He also posted times of 26:30 in the five miles, 1:52.5 in the 800-meter and 3:54.6 in the 1500-meter. Torrez was also an important leg in the two-mile and distance medley relay teams, both of which set records in 1985 that have since been broken.Â
As a senior in 1986-86, Torrez was again selected to the NAIA All-District VIII Team, leading LCU to a Co-Championship. They then placed 21st at the national meet, which was their highest-ever national meet finish at that point.Â
He was again an All-American in the 1000-yards at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships, completing the race with a time of 2:13.49, setting a then-school record.Â
Torrez was inducted into the LCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.Â
