Through the first three seasons of his career, Bulls never pitched more than 50.2 innings or had more than four wins. He broke out in 1983, however, leading the staff with 130 strikeouts, which was a new school record at the time, in 129.2 innings on the mound. He posted an ERA of 3.54 that year, allowing just 51 earned runs on 134 hits and 48 walks. He was an All-District selection and named the MVP of the NAIA World Series, which LCU won for the first time in school history.Â
For his career, Bulls went 23-13 in 61 games, posting a 4.82 earned run average in 255.2 innings on the mound. He allowed 270 hits, walked a 134 batters and struck out 256, which still ranks as the fifth most in an LCU career all-time. Bulls also excelled in the classroom, earning Academice All-American honors from both CoSIDA and the NAIA in both 1982 and 1983.Â
He was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1983 and reached the Class AAA level before ending his baseball career. Bulls was one of the two starting pitchers named to the Lubbock Christian baseball All-Deade team, which was voted on by the local news media prior to the 1990 season.
