Dan Chrane attended Lubbock Christian College when it was still a junior college in 1958-59 and 1959-60 and was inducted into the Lubbock Christian Hall of Honor in 1990 mainly for his prowess on the tennis court.

Chrane, a native of Pyote, Texas, comes from a tennis family. His father, Wright Chrane, was one of the founding members of what is now known as the Texas Tennis Coaches Association, and two more Chrane brothers followed in Dan's footsteps and played tennis at Lubbock Christian College in the 1960s as well.

As a freshman at LCC (1958-59), Dan competed for the basketball team as well as tennis, 15057when LCC's athletic programs were still called the "Pioneers." The basketball team went 6-12 that year, under the leadership of coach Hugh Rhodes, but it is not known how the tennis team fared.

Chrane did not compete for the main basketball team as a sophomore, but instead played for an separate basketball squad that competed against other church groups in the area. Focusing more on tennis, Chrane led LCC all the way to the National Junior College Association National Championships in Rochester, Minnesota. There, Chrane claimed the Single's Title, beating a T. Smith of Pratt Community College (Kansas) 7-5, 6-1. And, with 20 team points, Lubbock Christian was named Co-National Champions along with Tarleton State College.

Chrane went onto play at Texas Tech after graduating from LCC with his associates degree, spending two years with the Red Raider team.
