Hall of Honor
Carol (Pendergrass) Hise was a forward on the women's basketball team from 1990 to 1994, ranking in the top five in school history in a number of categories by the time she graduated.Â
Hise scored 1,448 points in her four seasons with the Lady Chaps, which at the time ranked second-most in school history behind only fellow Hall of Honor inductee Darla (Lynch) Jameson, but has since been surpassed by several other players. She also had her name in the top five in school history in field goal percentage (.490), field goals made (540), field goals attempted (1,101), free throws made (323), scoring average (14.2) and blocked shots (60).Â
A native of Meadow, Texas, Hise was recruited to play at Lubbock Christian by then-head coach Dave Carter and quickly made an impact. She played in all 28 games, averaging 12.11 points per game (third-highest on the team) while pulling down 7.9 rebounds per game. She was also third on the team in blocks with 24 that year.Â
Her scoring output increased in her sophomore season, pushing her to second on the team with 14.5 points per game, and although her rebounding dropped off slightly to 6.1 boards per game, she still led the team in that category. She was the team's leading scorer in six different games and added in 23 blocks and 37 steals on defense.Â
Hise received her first postseason recognition in the in 1992-93 season, becoming the 12th Lady Chap to ever be honored on that team. She was the team leader that year in scoring average (15.3), rebounding (7.6), field-goal percentage (.467) and three-point shooting (.412). She also ended the season with the best shooting percentage in the history of the women's basketball program at 51.6 percent, setting her up for a number of career records to be set during her senior season.Â
A strong senior season left Hise second on the all-time scoring list, among a number of other categories, although she was left off the All-District VIII Team for that season.Â
She is married to Paul Hise, who played basketball at LCU under John Copeland and served as the Lubbock Christian athletic director for 15 years. The couple have two daughters, Jordan and Jacey. Carol Hise was inducted into the LCU Athletic Hall of Honor in 2000.Â
