Hall of Honor
Burgundy Bass played on the women's basketball team at Lubbock Christian from 1987 to 1990, leaving her name all over the record books in just three years time.
When she left Lubbock Christian Bass ranked second all-time in points scored (1,159), first in free throw percentage (77.5), second in field goals made (424), second in total rebounds (567) and second in scoring average (15.8), which is still the third-highest career mark in school history.
Bass is a Lubbock native, having graduated from Monterey High School in 1986, but she did not attend LCU right away. First, she went to New Mexico Junior College, where she spent a year playing for former Chap letterman Jerry Isler before transferring to the Lady Chaps as a sophomore.
In her first season at LCU (1987-88), Bass was an integral part of the team, playing in all 20 games while averaging 12.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She also added in 26 steals and 36 assists, with her all-around performance earning her District VIII Newcomer of the Year honors.
The 1988-89 season was more of the same for Bass, who led the team into the District VIII playoffs with a team-high 14.5 points per game (377 total points) while also pulling down more than seven rebounds per game and was named to the All-District VIII First Team.
Bass repeated on the All-District VIII First Team as a senior and really made her mark on the Lubbock Christian record books. She set a new single-season scoring record with 537 points, a new record for free throws made in a season with 114 and a new scoring average record of 19.9 points per game, which is still the third-highest single-season mark in school history. She also came just three points shy of setting a new single-game scoring record when she poured in 35 points against Sul Ross on January 12, 1990.
Bass was inducted into the LCU Athletic Hall of Honor in 1998.
