Hall of Honor
Nicknamed "Scooter" and "The Big Bopper," Michelle Hinojos played volleyball for Lubbock Christian from 1981 through 1985.
Hinojos recorded 1,264 career kills, which is still the 10th most in Lady Chap history, and added in 261 solo blocks, which still stands as the third-most by and LCU volleyball player. When her career wrapped up, she was also LCU's all-time leader in attack percentage with a career mark of .347.
A number of single-season records also belonged to Hinojos when she finished her Lady Chap career, including the attack record with 1,311 (1985), the kills record with 362 (1985) and the attack percentage record of .449 (1984). All of these records have since been surpassed.
The first year on campus for Hinojos was 1981, but she did not see much action as a freshman. Then, in 1982, Lubbock Christian did not field a volleyball team, meaning the Pecos, Texas native had to wait until 1983 to really break out. And break out she did.
In 1983, Hinojos was named the District VIII Most Valuable Player, helping lead the Lady Chaps to a 19-5 record during the regular season, which was the best in the District. Despite their stellar record, LCC was seeded third in the District VIII Tournament, and the Lady Chaps fell in a heartbreaker to defending National Runner-Up Texas Wesleyan in the championship game. Hinojos posted 82 solo blocks during the season, which is still the sixth-most in a single-season by a Lady Chap ever.
The summer before the 1984 season, however, Hinojos had surgery on both of her knees. She recovered in time for the season, and toughed it enough throughout the season to make the All-District VIII Team once again, despite LCC missing the playoffs for the first time in school history.
Hinojos three-peated with another All-District VIII selection again her senior year, setting new school records in both attacks and kills under first-year head coach Dave Carter, who led the Lady Chaps to a 33-12 record (.733), which was the best in school history. Hosting the District VIII Tournament, Lubbock Christian once again reached the finals against Texas Wesleyan before losing.
Michelle Hinojos was inducted into the LCU Athletics Hall of Honor in 1995.
