Hix joins the Hall of Honor for not only his on-field accomplishments in college, but his contributions once leaving Lubbock Christian.

The Odessa Permian High School product was a member of the Chaps baseball team from 1979-1983 and was a member of the 1983 NAIA National Championship squad. Hix hit .316 in his LCU career. He claimed the program's Frank Hord Award in 1983, as the team's most courageous player, and the team's Golden Glove in 1982. Additionally in 1982, Hix was named NAIA All-American hitting .330 with 75 hits. He struck out 10 times in 227 total at-bats.

In 1984, Hix took over the baseball coaching reins at Lubbock Christian High School. It was his first coaching stop in the high school ranks, which has since witnessed stops in Amarillo and Canyon before a return to the Hub City in the summer of 2010 to take over at Coronado High School. In 22 seasons in the Amarillo area (15 in Canyon), Hix led his teams to the postseason 17 times, including a state tournament appearance in 2003 with Canyon. He led Coronado to the state championship game in 2011. In 2017, Hix was named District 4-5A Coach of the Year for the Mustangs.

Gary and his wife Vickie have celebrated 29 years of marriage with two daughters (Reagan Elam and Brittany Roberts) one grandchild (Cooper Roberts) and two more grandchildren on the way. Daughter Brittany played volleyball at LCU and was a member of their coaching staff.
