The school's first-ever NAIA Player of the Year, Kerry Richardson made his mark in just two seasons at Lubbock Christian.

Richardson was an outfielder in his first season at Lubbock Christian, batting .324 in 67 games with 13 home runs, 2 triples and 13 doubles while driving in 59 runners. His performance earned him a spot on the All-District VIII Team, but it was just a warmup for what was to come in his senior year.

Moving to third base in 1986, Richardson settled into a grove and never got out of hit. He hit .423 that year, recording 130 hits in 307 at-bats, 25 of which were home runs, along with four triples and 39 doubles. He drove in 131 runners and added in five stolen bases on his way to claiming District, Area and National Player of the Year honors.

Richardson's 39 doubles and 131 runs batted in still stand as the Lubbock Christian single-season record, and his 130 his in 1986 stood as the record until 1999, when LCU's second NAIA National Player of the Year, Keith Hart, had 138.

Following his senior season, Richardson was drafted in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Cleveland Indians. He played three seasons in the minors, reaching as high as Class AA, before retiring from professional baseball.
