Hall of Honor
Hord, a former LCU employee who worked in the science department and for the LCU Water Research Department for 18 years, is one of the greatest supporters of Chap and Lady Chap athletics in the history of the school
Well into his 90s, Frank Hord attended nearly every Lubbock Christian home game in every sport - volleyball, basketball or baseball - as well as traveling on the road to many baseball games, often with the team. He was the first non-athlete, coach or athletic department employee ever inducted into LCU's Athletic Hall of Honor.
Hord was there in the early stages of LCU athletics, when the school first transition to senior college status and began competing in the NAIA in both baseball and basketball in the 1970-71 school year, when the legendary Larry Hays was LCU's athletic director. He was still around nearly 30 years later, when Larry's son Darren was coaching the Chap baseball team.
"Frank was an institution of LCU baseball," Darren Hays said. "The first time I ever saw baseball at LCU, Frank was there. He may have seen more LCU baseball games than anyone else connected to our program."
When asked why he followed LCU sports so closely, Hord responded, "I was always interested in sports and kinda took them (the LCU athletes) under my arm."
Although he attended every sporting event he could, Hord maintained that his favorite sport was baseball and his favorite memory was the Chaps' 1983 NAIA National Championship.
Hord passed away in 2000, but his legacy as a Lubbock Christian supporter lives on.
