Russwurm was Lubbock Christian's first great men's basketball player once they transitioned to senior college status, turning in a stellar career from 1971 to 1975 and setting several records that still stand today and a few that were just recently broken.

Career-wise, Russwurm scored 1,411 points, attempting 1,227 field goals (5th-most in LCU history) and making 649 of them (2nd-most). He was a career 52.2 percent shooter, which was the record when he graduated. The field goals made record was only just recently broken (2019) by Chap forward Brennen Fowler, who also broke Russwurm's career rebounding record of 753.

Russwurm was the first Chap player to ever score 500 points in a season with 590 in 1972-73, which is still the fourth-highest single-season mark in program history. He was also the first Lubbock Christian player to score more than 40 points in a game, pouring in 44 on 21 field-goal attempts (school record) in a game where he also pulled down 20 rebounds.

Although he did not see a ton of action as a freshman, Russwurm burst onto the scene as a sophomore, setting a new school record for points scored in a season (461) and shooting percentage (58.9, 207-351) during the 1972-73 campaign.

He followed up with a career-high 590 points as a junior, albeit on a slightly lower shooting percentage (51.4, 265-516). In his senior season, the Chaps spread the offense around more, so Russwurm scored *only* 360 points, although that still led the team.

Russwurm was inducted into the LCU Athletic Hall of Honor in 1990, along with Tim Leslie (BSB), Mike Williams (XC/T&F), Guyle Roberson (FB) Rob Evans (MBB), Edd Workman (RODEO), and Dan Chrane (MTN).
